Advanced control and protection capabilities

The EDI system combines advanced monitoring and automation to simplify complex engine management. It delivers individual cylinder knock control with optimisation, misfire detection with automatic correction, and full supervision of critical systems including sensors, cooling and heating circuits, and auxiliary equipment.

Designed for both grid-parallel and island operation, EDI manages start and stop sequencing, integrates via CAN with ignition systems and TecJet, and regulates engine speed, power output, and air/gas ratio with precision.

Additional control functions include turbo bypass and fan management for hybrid or dry cooling systems, as well as flow-side temperature regulation to help maintain stable performance, even under partial load conditions.

Designed for demanding Jenbacher® gas engine installations

The PowerUP EDI system is designed for Jenbacher® gas engine installations operating in environments where performance visibility, control, and protection are critical. This includes combined heat and power (CHP) plants, biogas and landfill gas sites, and industrial energy systems running under continuous or variable load conditions.

In applications where gas quality, load demand, or operating conditions fluctuate, greater oversight of engine behaviour supports more stable operation and improved long-term performance management.

Your EDI questions answered

Operators often want to know how the EDI system fits into their applications and what advantages it brings. Here are answers to some of the most common questions we hear.

What is the PowerUP EDI system?

The PowerUP EDI system is a tailor-made engine control solution developed specifically for Jenbacher® gas engines. It provides operators with enhanced visibility and access to engine parameters, supporting diagnostics, operational control, and performance optimisation in demanding gas engine installations.

Which Jenbacher® engine series are compatible with the EDI system?

Compatibility depends on engine series, configuration, and existing control setup. MPE can assess suitability based on engine model and site details to confirm whether the EDI system is appropriate for a specific installation.

Is the EDI system suitable for existing Jenbacher® installations?

In many cases, yes. The EDI system can be considered for retrofit or upgrade applications, subject to technical review of the engine configuration and control environment. MPE supports customers in assessing feasibility and application requirements.

What operational benefits does the EDI system provide?

The EDI system supports clearer diagnostics, improved control of engine behaviour, and more informed operational decision-making. By providing access to engine parameters and performance trends, it helps operators respond more effectively to issues and manage long-term performance.

What protection functions are included within the EDI system?

The EDI system incorporates protection functions for the engine, generator, and grid interface, including knock detection, misfire detection, and supervision of critical auxiliary systems. These functions support stable operation and equipment protection under varying operating conditions.

Can the EDI system support performance optimisation?

Yes. Through access to engine parameters and performance data, the EDI system supports informed adjustments that can help improve stability, control, and efficiency over time, particularly in installations subject to variable load or gas quality.

What information is needed to assess suitability for EDI?

Assessment typically requires engine model and serial number details, information on the existing control system, and an overview of site operating conditions and objectives. MPE reviews this information to advise on suitability and next steps.

What support does MPE provide for the EDI system?

MPE supports customers through specification, technical assessment, and integration guidance for the PowerUP EDI system. Ongoing technical support is also available to help operators interpret system data and maintain confidence in long-term operation.
